Like, stop reading right now and start viewing the documentary. We’ll wait . . . Then come back here and share your takeaways in the Comments section below: what you learned that you didn’t know before.

Why the urgency? Is it because the gender diversity documentary is brimming with Hollywood star power? Not really. (But that keeps it interesting.) Is it because it’s an exposé about gender discrimination in entertainment? Nope. (But its lessons may be applicable to other industries.) Is it because it will make you smarter? (You’re getting close.)

We recommend the film because it will empower you to make a difference in the world.

No matter what industry you work in, This Changes Everything will teach you things you never knew before about gender diversity. Remember, knowledge is power. The film serves up diversity insights and methods you can use to identify and root out gender discrimination.

This Changes Everything is an award-winning feature film that uncovers what is beneath one of the most confounding dilemmas in the entertainment industry – the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women.

Why, when we know better, can’t we do a better job of advancing working women? It is a question we’ve heard a lot during diversity recruiting engagements. Most employers of choice are well aware that gender equality for working women needs work. Yet, despite valiant DE&I efforts, there remains a patriarchy and it has been . . . resistant to change.

The documentary takes an incisive look at the history, empirical evidence, and systemic forces that foster gender discrimination and thus reinforce disparity in our culture. You’ll learn what fuels continued discrimination. Most importantly, the film seeks pathways and solutions from within and outside the industry, and around the world.

The documentary features interviews with Geena Davis, Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Taraji P. Henson, Reese Witherspoon, Cate Blanchett, Tiffany Haddish, Jill Soloway, Shonda Rhimes, Jessica Chastain, Yara Shahidi, Chloe Grace Moretz, Amandla Stenberg, Alan Alda, Sandra Oh, Anita Hill, Rashida Jones, Rose McGowan, Judd Apatow, Rosario Dawson, Maria Giese, and many other influential voices in the fight for gender equality.

“Remember the kids books in the 50s: See Dick, See Jane? I just felt we see Dick all the time. I just wanted to see more Jane.”

–Gena Davis, Two-Time Award-Winning Actor

The film was produced by Gena Davis who has made it her mission to advance the cause of women in Hollywood. She founded the Gena Davis Institute on Gender in Media in 2004. Since then, the Institute has remained the only global research-based organization working within the entertainment industry to create gender balance, foster inclusion, and reduce negative stereotyping in entertainment media.
